Food… It’s Kind of Important

I am roughly 200 lbs and needless to say I am constantly thinking about my next meal. We often spend days at a time in the woods building shelters, hiking and training. That is a lot of burned calories so we have to think about how to bring calories back in. The dilemma is that the more food you bring the heavier your survival bag is going to be.
When I first started my survival training I would simply cook myself three meals for every day we would be out in the woods. HUGE MISTAKE! The first time we did a three day hike I packed 9 solid meals which meant half of my bag was filled with food. I had one of the heaviest packs which meant I was slower and I was actually burning more calories.
Another huge problem with this is that cooked meals attract wildlife. There is nothing more terrifying than waking up to see your bag ripped apart by animals while you slept ignorantly in your shelter.
Now my bugout bag is prepped with MREs, which stands for MEALS READY to EAT. No need to start a fire or add water, these packages are ready to go straight out of the package. They are light weight, easy to store, last for years, and will provide you with the calories and nutrition you will need while fighting in the zombie apocalypse. I will generally eat about anything (except spicy) so it is hard for me to give a fair comment on the taste. I’ve experimented with different flavours and have not found one that I don’t like yet.
To see more information on the brand that I buy, I have added it to my personal Jedi Survival Kit
