The Amazing Strategist

How you prepare is more important than what you prepare. I don't care if you have 7 years of food or 700 years, if you have the wrong approach to preparations it is all for naught. If you have a bad attitude, alienate potential allies and lose sight of all of the broader potentialities as you prepare, then you are doomed. That may be controversial to some people. Some might be saying, "well if I have more guns, ammo and supplies than an aircraft carrier, I won't need friends." Wrong. You are tragically mistaken. You have made the all too common mistake of preparing yourself perfectly to live a miserable life. I won't even bother getting into the dramatic survival shortcomings you've set yourself up for.

The best preps have a dual function. You have a radio that is also a flashlight? Smart. Your approach to prepping includes bettering the community, making friends and allies at every turn and improving your everyday self? Brilliant. There is no reason to approach becoming a survivalist as a long term investment. You should be improving your existing circumstances BY preparing for extenuating circumstances. Learning to make traps on a Sunday afternoon in a beautiful setting with a community of interesting people will have a myriad of benefits. You'll feel recharged going back to work Monday, you'll have a new confidence, new friends and more readily absorb information. Spend 8 hours researching guns and theories about impending disaster while spending your savings on gear you have no idea how to use will on the other hand probably leave you a little worse off.

When it comes down to it, the way you prepare is crucial to your long term success in a pre and post apocalyptic world. I've always worked diligently to better myself in some manner or another. Recently, I have taken time to reflect on my gains and have been utterly amazed at how much more successful I have been since my approach began to incorporate others. I highly encourage you to take some time and re-evaluate how you approach your survival in this life and the zombie invested next. You are welcome to come talk to me about it. The conversation will likely help me find ways to improve my approach too.
