We just finished our first survival camp last week-end and I’m filled with an abundance of emotions. I am still amazed that we continue to attract some of the most enthusiastic and inspiring people in the world to our camps. I always feel that I am my best self after a week-end like this. Being surrounded by people that are looking to learn and contribute is where I have found the most happiness in my life. It reminds me of a quote from the movie Into the Wild: “Happiness is only real, when shared”.
These last few days at work I've found my mind drifting back to my fellow campers and I’m left wondering why we have to be apart for so long. It may sound silly to people that have never taken the camp, but there is something truly magical that happens over the course of this week-end. Learning, overcoming great obstacles and simply sharing with one another is quickly becoming the obsession of my life.
Deidter often asks himself how what he is doing is going to bring him closer to Zombie Survival Camp. I think it is a beautiful question that I should be asking myself more often. I am humbled and honoured by my fellow instructors, our allies, and of course all of our campers.
This is a different kind of post for me. I’m going to try and keep it as short and sweet as I can. This post is first and foremost a thank you to everyone in my zombie survival camp life. You help make me a better person every day. It is secondly a call to action, a plea for all of you reading out there to create and contribute with us. If you have learned something amazing from this week-end pass on the knowledge to someone you think could use it.
We all want to learn your special skills. Do you have something incredible to share with us and our other campers? We are constantly bringing back former campers so that they can have a chance to pass on their knowledge to others. What do you want to pass on? Let us know.
