The ZSC instructors have provided a wealth of information on how to protect yourself from zombies - the living corpses that feed on human flesh. But with the Spring 2015 camp upon us, I wanted to discuss a potentially more insidious strain of zombie: the Energy Zombie. Like its close cousin, the energy vampire, energy zombies are the soulless undead that drain our mental and emotional energies in life....
You know the types... The Narcissist Zombie whose sole focus is to elicit praise and admiration from you in attempt to bolster its fragile ego
The Downer Zombie who incessantly complains about its life, with the hopes that you’ll join it in its vortex of misery
The Judgemental Zombie that attempts to undermine your self-esteem with its self righteous commentary
The Jealous Zombie who at your finest moments only downgrades your success
The Bully Zombie who preys on the weak since picking at someone its own size requires real strength and courage
The Passive Aggressive Zombie that seethes anger and spite underneath a thin veil of fake friendliness
And many more including The Insecure Zombie, The GuiltTrip Zombie, The Nayser Zombie, The Paranoid Zombie, The OverBearing Zombie...the list goes on In essence, the Energy Zombies all have one thing in common they feed off your awesomeness while giving back nothing in return. During the Zombie Apocalypse, as in real life, these zombies will rob you of your vital energy life force, render you lethargic, inert, powerless and prevent you from effectively rebuilding the world in the aftermath of a global catastrophe. But do not fret my pets, there is an antidote. It’s called Mental Fortitude. This is the only arsenal you’ll need to protect yourself from a horde of Energy Zombies. Do what it takes to remain positive, emotionally intelligent and mentally stable. Ensure your sense of self is unshakable. Eat well, sleep well, meditate, practice gratitude, share your joy, surround yourself with positive people and love deeply. Ultimately, these are the qualities that will separate the living from the living dead.
