What to Do in Toronto This Summer to Please Your Inner Geek

I wanted to share some of the events that are happening in and around the city this summer now so that you can mark it off in your calendars. Many of these events will be posted on our website and Facebook so if you want more information just start digging through the sites. Otherwise, feel free to join me in one of any of the events that I list below. I promise your inner geek will be happy.

Zombie Survival Camp Obviously you will want to check out a Zombie Survival Camp. If you have never experienced one of these week-ends you are missing out. You will be taught all the skills you need to survive the zombie outbreak. This is a chance for you and your friends to come out and take out zombies that are chasing you down to infect you. Have you ever had the chance to watch your arrow fly through the air and hit a zombie right between the eyes? Watching the envy on the faces of your coworkers as you tell them about shooting arrows, kicking zombie ass and building your own fortress will actually make you want to go to work on Monday. There are three camps in Ontario to choose from and one in Manitoba. We try to get everyone we can to these events but tickets sell out weeks in advance.

LARPING (Live Acion Roll Play) We started larping about two years ago with a group called Z-World. If you loved playing dungeons and dragons as a kid and fantasized about doing the real thing you NEED to do this! Create your own character and join forces with other warriors to battle hordes of zombies. The story continues and you have a chance to upgrade your character the more you play. The next week-end adventure is May 29-31st check out Z-World and join the zombie resistance

Atomic Lollipop This is a crazy three day party that celebrates everything in the world of geekdom. They rent out the Ontario Science Centre and put on the best convention/music festival this city has to offer. There are scheduled lectures, bouncy castles, geek speed dating, fire spinners, burlesque dancers and of course we will be there to put you face to face with a live zombie that you can battle after you have spun the wheel of death. The week-end starts July 17th and finishes on the 19th but it is packed full of awesome vendors and sexy people.

Annual Preppers Meet This is the largest prepper event in Ontario. Anyone interested in learning more badass skills sign up and let the wisdom flow in. You will learn self reliance, wilderness survival, psychology skills and tons more from Canada’s most effective trainers. The event takes place at a real nuclear fallout shelter called the ARK 2. The bunker is comprised of 42 school buses welded together under ground. Join the fun July 10-12th and learn things that may in fact save your life one day.

Fan Expo Mark your calendars for September 3-6 this year. This event is held at the Metro Convention Center and is filled with thousands of fanatics across all genres. It is a sea of celebrities, cosplayers, vendors, and food. Meet some of your favourite TV actors or watch them talk about their characters in a live interview. I encourage all of you to dress up as your favourite characters to be fully immersed in this exposition.

Zombie Prom We have found your Halloween plans for this year. The glamorous Palais Royale located right on the lakeshore of Toronto will be holding the Zombie Prom this Saturday October 31st. Dress in formal attire or your favourite zombie and dance your ass off with us. There will be cheap beer, free makeup, free photo booths, prizes, giveaways and entertainment. We had over 400 people rocking out with us last year and this year we are expecting hundreds more. Check out www.zombieprom.ca to check out last year’s event and buy your ticket for this year.
