Today I want to share with you 3 of the best books I have read that helped shape my ideas about training and preparing for the zombie apocalypse. These are all introductory books to the world of survival but I promise they will become staples of your library.
1.) Emergency by Neil Struass
This is a great introductory book for someone new to the field of prepping and survival. It’s the story of Neil Strauss, a writer from New York who is overwhelmed with anxiety after the events of 9/11 that he spends the next 10 years preparing himself for when “shit hits the fan”. He learns wilderness survival, trains with ex bounty hunters, buys a gun, and even goes so far as to search for citizenship in another country.
2.) The 4-Hour Chef by Timothy Ferris
This book is not your momma’s cook book. This book is a guide on how to learn anything and everything you want. It begins by teaching you the principles of “Meta learning”, the study of accelerated learning. Tim Ferris is a master of life hacking and this book states “that it is possible to become world-class in just about anything in six months or less”. This book is important to us survivalist because he dedicates an entire section of his book to mastering the wild. He breaks down the best tools and gear, tips on how to get food and water, how to make shelter, and the best places in the world to go hunting. It is packed with survivalist gold. Once you have read the section on meta learning you will be hunting and tracking like a world class survivalist.
3.) The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks
When I first picked up this book I found it in the comedy section of a book store in the East end of Toronto. This is anything but a comedy book. This is a very serious book on survival. It explores ideas about the zombie apocalypse that I never even considered before. In one section he explores the benefits of shark diving suits vs chain mail. This guy is just as obsessed with zombie survival training as we are! It is broken into 7 different sections all of which offer real survival skills and training. Although I may beg to differ on some of his opinions about zombies, his ideas on survival are essential and could possibly save your life one day.
